Sorry for the earlier confusion about IP addresses, to reiterate, it was Hamachi’s IP, and once I disabled Hamachi I am still able to connect to it and it gives my private IP.
Ah. It sounds like either:
1. Hamachi is sending all multicast info out the hamachi interface
or
2. Bonjour is picking up the hamachi interface and advertising it on the local lan.
You might try stopping hamachi, restarting bonjour (so it starts up without hamachi running), then restarting firefly. (through control panel->admin tools->services).
I wonder what that would do.
There does exist an option to specify what interface to advertise on, but I’m not sure how that works on windows. I’ll look into it further, but it looks as if for now you have a workaround.
Glad to hear it.

That doesn’t seem to be working. They’re both attempting to connect via the private IPs now – iTunes on my server can connect ot the Firefly while the iTunes on my laptop can’t. Also, the iTunes on my laptop can connect to the share from iTunes on my server.
Confused yet?
Either way, Hamachi is fine with me, I’ve been using it for a variety of purposes anyway, as I’m often out and about but still want file access to my desktop.

It’s not really resolved, but there’s a workaround – if you have the two computers on a Hamachi network, if iTunes attempts to connect through Hamachi it should work.
02/02/2008 at 11:27 PM #15837AnonymousInactivei forgot to mention that i don’t have Hamachi (i don’t even know what that is..) installed. i think earlier in this thread you said your clients showed with an external WAN ip address, but my clients are always listed with an internal private lan address (192.168.1.xxx).

I was mistaken – it was the Hamachi IP.
If you install Hamachi and set up a network with your computers on it, they should connect fine – atleast, they do for me.
02/02/2008 at 11:52 PM #15839AnonymousInactivethanks for the response, but i don’t think i have a need for Hamachi and won’t install it. my network is pretty simple and i use WOL on my tomato router to wake up my PC for ftp/ssl and remote desktop. i would just love to have firefly working so that i don’t need to leave itunes running to serve music to laptops and machines in other rooms.

That looks like it’s iTunes ticked off about something. It’s iTunes closing the connection, but I’m not sure why. Does iTunes on the PC connect to it okay?
Might be worth trying this version: http://nightlies.fireflymediaserver.org/version.php?version=svn-1696
It’s got other issues, but the socket stack is all re-written… might be a socket issue.

i tried that version after having problems w/ 1586, but the host pc couldn’t even connect to firefly via itunes so i went back to 1586. with 1586, the host pc has no problems connecting. anyway, i tried again last night with an itunes client and it somehow is working now. the only thing i recall changing is the “compress” option on the server.

Compress to 1, or compress to 0?
