This is rather wierd. My ROKU soundbridge (which totally rocks, I love it, my wife loves it, my kids love it!) sees both the firefly server on our ubuntu desktop as well as the firefly server on the ubuntu laptop. Everything is cool on that front.
On the desktop, rhythmbox only sees the laptop and not the firefly server on itself.
On a windows desktop, itunes sees neither.
What gives?
Here’s the log from the desktop:

and could it be related to this? Both the laptop and the desktop are running hardy heron. Why would the ROKU soundbridge see the desktop firefly over wireless and nothing else will?20/07/2008 at 9:23 AM #17477fizzeParticipantThe ssc-script plugin is only used on embedded devices like the nslu2. The ssc-ffmpeg plugin is far superior. 🙂
How is everything connected, network-wise? Wired? Wirelessly? What kind of network equipment do you use? Wired router? Wireless router? What brand/model/firmware?
20/07/2008 at 7:07 PM #17478crmccrearyParticipantAfter further checking, firely is recognized by the ROKU and rhythmbox under ubuntu. It is not recognized by Itunes across a wireless-B bridge.
21/07/2008 at 8:10 AM #17479fizzeParticipantSweet. It seems the wireless bridge/AP does not relay multicast packets.
Check the administration webinterface of your wireless bridge for anything like “multicast” or “unicast” etc. And make sure it’s enabled.Firefly relies on multicast packets to announce itself on the network.
