With my new Mac mini I have the latest iTunes 8.1. I cannot get Firefly to read the database. It comes up with a whole list of messages that it has problems with the meta codes. For example:
2009-03-17 07:12:49 (b0103000): Unknown meta code: com.apple.itunes.mediakind
Anyone knows of a work-around?
17/03/2009 at 8:38 AM #18115stretchParticipantWhat version of Firefly?
17/03/2009 at 9:22 AM #18116AnonymousInactiveI am using svn-1586.
I downloaded the file:
Firefly-svn-1696.dmg
from
http://nightlies.fireflymediaserver.org/version.phpbut there is error message that it failed to mount. Reason: not recognized (?)
17/03/2009 at 8:19 PM #18117AnonymousInactiveI’m on a PPC Mac and not an Intel version but svn1586 works fine for me with iTunes 8.1 (50) running on Leopard 10.5.6
Your problem with mounting 1696 sounds like it may not have d/l’ed correctly. I’d grab 1586 again, then run the stop/uninstall scripts and re-install the preference pane and see where that gets you. If you still have problems then maybe a reinstall of iTunes is in order though that’s a new one on me π
19/03/2009 at 10:42 PM #18118AnonymousInactiveI have re-downloaded both 1586 and 1696.
Re-installing 1586 gives the same problems: it starts but does not show any songs: it cannot read the database.1696 has another problem: it will not start. It keeps on saying: “FirefLy starting”. The log says:

I just hate to re-install iTunes and will not bother. I might just copy it to the DNS-323 and work from there.20/03/2009 at 11:28 AM #18119AnonymousInactive2009-03-20 07:34:49 (a028b720): Starting web server from /Library/PreferencePanes/Firefly.prefPane/Contents/Resources/Firefly Helper.app/Contents/Resources/Server/admin-root on port 0
well, port 0 doesn’t look right. If you installed firefly to automatically choose a port, try it manually (3689 is default, mine is set to 1024). Also, shorten Firefly’s shared name as it bums out on long descriptions. If it hangs on the initial scan (known bug), let it run a few minutes then stop & restart the server. Trashing the .db file located in Library/Application Support/Firefly and letting Firefly rebuild it would be worthwhile also.
Any joy?
20/03/2009 at 12:49 PM #18120EVILRipperParticipantThe log file states it found 0 songs. Try fixing that first. Maybe you’re scanning in the wrong dir, or maybe it’s a permission issue. Check which user runs firefly and make sure that user has the rights to read the mp3 files.
20/03/2009 at 10:24 PM #18121AnonymousInactiveMaybe you’re scanning in the wrong dir,
aaaaaaaaaarrrrrgh, ALIAS!
the iTunes directory is an alias which points to the external hard-drive. And I pointed FireFly to the main drive directory. No wonder it did not find anything. π³EvilRipper, you’re a champ! Saved my live or prevented something worse; the missus was getting cranky.
