I was using launchd to start the server but after messing around with all the options I could think of, I switched to a StartupItems script. When I started the server from there, I got much clearer error messages and was able to debug my problem (which turned out to be relatively simple). I’m not sure if I want to bother moving the startup item back into launchd, or if I’ll just leave it where it is since it works.
