Sounds like a firewall issue. Try disabling any firewalls first, and see where that gets you. If that’s the case, we can carve out an exception for the port it uses.
Can you see the web interface remotely? It’s usually at http://server:9999. You should get an error page about not setting an admin password if you haven’t already done that.
