forgot to mention that I told iTunes to “consolidate” the library.
Also since first writing my post mt-daapd has also found the Playlists (it took a few hours). So my point is that everything works fine with the nightly I’m using (01 March), but the exact same configuration doesn’t seem to work with the latest build.
