I recently build a new system, NSLU2 with 6.10 unslung, and it also would not do any transcoding. /dev/null permissions was the problem. (it was originally non-writable) The log files did not indicate that this was the problem. Seems like this could be a seriously annoying problem.
What’s the point in a non-writable /dev/null?
