This means you already have it running.
Stop it completely (killall -9 mt-daapd), then probably get rid of the db for safety measures (rm /opt/var/mt-daapd/songs*) (is that the right path?). Then start it again, making sure that the scan_interval is set to 0.
That should set you right.
