The one built in is really just an embedded version of the apple one. It’s based on release 104.7, the apache licensed one.
I think that probably avahi is the mdns server of choice, as it seems to be actually developed on platforms outside of darwin, but I *think* the built-in one at least compiles and works. Like I said, I’ll be working more on it soon.
